In a move that has come very much out of the blue it has been confirmed that leading National Hunt owner
JP McManus has purchased the mare Bluesea Cracker to join his other
Grand National 2011 runners,
writes Elliot Slater.

McManus, who famously landed the race 12 months ago with the AP McCoy-ridden Don't Push It and who had seen
his St John's Castle run a fine second to Comply Or Die in the 2008 renewal, appears very keen to return to
the winners' enclosure once again at the Liverpool track on April 9. McManus' racing manager Frank Berry
confirmed that the nine-year-old mare, formerly owned by the Note The Link Syndicate, had been purchased in
a private deal that has only just been concluded. She is to remain under the care of trainer James Motherway
and Andrew McNamara will remain in the saddle for the big race as had originally been planned.
Bluesea Cracker, winner of the 2010 Powers Whisky Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse where she defeated one
of this year's leading Aintree candidates Oscar Time by four-and-a-half-lengths, will join last year's
National hero Don't Push It, Can't Buy Time and Quolibet, whilst McManus has still not decided whether or
not he should give a green light to
Arbor Supreme and the Welsh National winner Synchronized to take their respective chance on ground
that could well turn out to be faster than ideal for them.
News of the purchase of Bluesea Cracker has seen the mare's odds for the Grand National trimmed by a number
of firms, whilst others have left their prices unchanged. Now just 16/1 with one major firm, she can still
be backed in places at 33/1. |
