Ed Dunlop has admitted that he is thinking of revising his original plan for Qipco 2000 Guineas
contender Native Khan with the three-year-old having come to hand rather than quicker than had been
anticipated, writes Elliot Slater.

The Newmarket handler made it clear some time ago that he intended to send the Azamour colt directly to
Newmarket for the 2000 Guineas without a prep race, but having observed his charge in recent days he is
beginning to weigh the possibility of running in the Group 3 Breeze Up Vendors Craven Stakes next week, a
key trial for the first colts' classic of the 2011 season. Those following the
Guineas betting should
keep a close eye on the race.
Currently on offer at around 50/1 in the
horse racing betting for the big race, Native Khan proved himself a very useful juvenile last term,
making a winning debut in a maiden at Newmarket's July meeting when easily beating Baransky by
three-and-a-quarter lengths. He was stepped up to Group 3 company for his second outing and duly justified
favouritism in beating Catchpole by half-a-length to land the Solario Stakes at Sandown in August, before
being thrown in at the deep end two months later when sent to Doncaster to contest the Group 1 Racing Post
Trophy.
In what looks to have been a strong renewal of the Town Moor contest, Native Khan came home fourth behind
the impressive Casamento, having been outpaced two furlongs out before staying-on again inside the final
furlong to be doing his best work at the finish. Quite whether he will have enough speed as a three-year-old
over a mile remains to be seen, but the prospect of his preferred fast ground is certainly tempting Dunlop
to let his promising colt take his chance in the Craven Stakes (potentially picking up a nice prize), before
running in the main event on April 30. |
