Edward Lynam, trainer of Saturday's impressive Temple Stakes winner and new King's Stand Stakes
favourite Sole Power, has sounded a note of a caution with regard to the participation in the big sprint of
his stable star, writes Elliot Slater.

Sole Power burst on to the sprinting scene last season when causing a major shock in landing the Group 1
Nunthorpe Stakes at York's Ebor meeting at the stunning odds of 100/1, leaving the Knavesmire racegoers
stunned into silence and scratching their heads at the unexpected victory of a horse who had been barely
considered by most backers. It was enough to turn the heads of those who usually focus on the
Epsom
Derby betting odds.
The Kyllachy gelding was not seen again for the rest of the term and did little to suggest that his York win
hadn't been a fluke when only beating two of the 16 runners home in the Group 2 Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan in
March, but in finishing a staying-on third to Tangerine Trees at Newmarket at the end of April in the Group
3 Palace House Stakes, he hinted that he might be on his way back and anyone looking at the
Royal
Ascot betting needs to remember this.
Sent off an 8/1 shot at Haydock on Saturday for the Group 2 Temple Stakes with all eyes on Hungarian star
Overdose, Sole Power finally proved the doubters wrong with a powerful display in dismissing a strong field,
coming home three-quarters-of-a-length clear of another Group 1 winner, Kingsgate Native.
Promoted to as short as 8/1 ante-post favourite for the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot on the back of
his Haydock win, Sole Power's handler is keen to make it clear that connections are looking at a long
campaign that will include a defence of his Nunthorpe title in August, going all the way through to the Hong
Kong International Sprint in December. As such, they have not yet committed their four-year-old to the Royal
Ascot contest just yet and want punters to be aware of their deliberations. |
